Gimme the box & Gimme the milk!

I had planned on posting this first video taken last night just because it was too funny. She was so determined to reach that box. But then she hit a milestone and I HAD to share the next one, too!

We have been doing baby sign with Lyla for almost two months now and she is getting it! At first we thought she was just waving "hi" but then I noticed she was doing her little wave when she was hungry. She has learned the sign for MILK! We are so proud of her! I also think she is learning "all finished" but I'm not sure. We do it after she eats, of course but I have also been doing after I suck her nose out. Well, a couple times today, she started doing what looked like "all finished" while I was sucking her nose out...as if to say, "I'M all finished, Mom. Stop it!" I don't know how quickly most babies pick up on this stuff but I think she's a pretty fast learner. Not that I am biased or anything.

One Hundred

Can you believe that Lyla isn't even 8 months old yet and this is my 100th post? I'm not sure what that says about me--I hope it says I am a proud mother. That's what I am going with. Lyla began flirting a few weeks ago by slightly cocking her head to the side. It is progressing into an all out backbend, though.

Anyway, she currently has a bad runny nose. Poor thing. Lyla, who has always been a good sleeper at night (thank goodness), has a hard time staying asleep for long stretches right now. She can wake up several times at night just simply needing her nose to be sucked out. Which, by the way, she HATES. She dodges the bulb back and forth, trying to get it in her mouth instead of her nose. Once that battle is over and I rub a little vaseline on her little red nose, there's the task of getting her back to sleep. Another issue with Lyla when she isn't feeling well...she does not like being rocked to sleep. We were so determined not to spoil her that she fights sleep harder in one's arms than she does if you just put her down and let her cry a little. You may see where this is going. So, she doesn't feel good and kinda wants to be held BUT she doesn't want to be rocked to sleep either. She fights and squirms, screams and claws. Eventually, we end up putting her down only for her to begin whimpering as if we have hurt her feelings. Then she cries and cries which causes what natural thing to happen? Anyone? Bueller? That's right--her nose begins to run. Oh, yeah, don't forget to factor in the pacifier. For the most part, Lyla only gets it when she is sleeping and she isn't one to wake up if she loses it or anything. But with a stuffy nose, it's not even an option right now. Needless to say, we have a long night ahead of us. ALL that being said, I am thankful it is just a runny nose.

Dinnertime or Playtime?

You have to have patience when feeding Lyla her bottle. She likes to hold her bottle but she also likes playing with it. Seth calls this particular move "driving a car." He says she is weaving in and out of traffic like her mother and all the other crazy Georgian drivers. Haha.

Thought you would enjoy these from our family playtime last night. On a side note, unfortunately, Lane will no longer be allowed in Lyla's room. Now that Lyla is crawling, I want one room where I can put her on the floor and not have to "lintroll" her afterward. (Those of you with indoor dogs understand.) He can play with Lyla in the family room ALL he wants. Sorry Lane, it's not personal.

We have lift-off!!

We knew it was just a matter of time but who knew it would be this soon?! Seth loves to laugh at the way I stick my tongue out when I am concentrating--um, guess the apple doesn't fall from the tree. I also got tickled at her leg getting stuck up in her sleeper. It didn't stop her, though! Babyproofing...here we come!

Scooter

Okay, so she isn't crawling yet but she is scooting! I was washing/making bottles last night while Seth and Lyla supervised. All of a sudden, Lyla saw a receipt & the salepapers and HAD to have them. We'll be chasing her around in no time!

Seven Months

Lyla hit 7 months yesterday which means she is over halfway to her 1st birthday. It is so hard to believe. I'll just give you a little update...she loves sitting up and playing with her blocks and her play phone. She is still rolling over onto her belly every chance she gets and pops up to all fours all the time. We think we have caught her making some movement backwards on her belly but haven't captured it on video yet. Lyla is one of the most easy-going babies I have ever known. We are so thankful that she is comfortable with anyone. Sundays are never the same because of church, lunch, etc but she just goes with the flow. Even today we had lunch with friends, stopped by my former workplace and even did a little shopping...she took it all in stride. The last stop at Hobby Lobby wasn't as enjoyable because she woke up the second I put her in the cart and decided about halfway through the store that she was done being patient. But even when she gets impatient, she is polite about it. Go figure. Bathtime is interesting. As you have seen from pictures, we bathe Lyla in the kitchen sink. She doesn't love being on her back anymore but she isn't strong enough (the sink is too slippery) for her to sit up without support. So on days I bathe her myself, I have no choice but to keep her on her back which means a constant battle because she wants to roll over or sit up. Oh, yeah--she has started to kick and splash now. She isn't making much of a mess, though...yet. As for foods: peaches & pears pass the test so far but the jury's still out on bananas. She has been a little fussy at night since starting them and I'm wondering if they are hurting her little tummy. Apples will be next so we'll let you know. That's pretty much the scoop for now. Belly Laughs

My original plan was to post a video of Seth making Lyla laugh her head off last night but it has failed to upload 4 times. I'll keep trying, though because it is priceless. For now, this picture will have to do--you get the idea. Lyla is really getting to a fun age. She is interested in everything around her. She even enjoys chasing my hand around her highchair as I wipe it down. Still not crawling yet but we think she may have scooted backwards once or twice so that's a start. I guess our next big step will be "babyproofing." She loves her exersaucer and her bouncer--I also loves these items because they allow me to take a shower if I missed my chance during a nap. Lyla also loves her mirrored toy. She squeals at herself and enjoys chewing on it. That's another thing...EVERYTHING goes in her mouth. Lately she has been sucking her hand through her burpcloth. We have been thinking she's teething for what seems like months now but still nothing. She just drools SO much, though. Oh, well, no rush. As for food, pears seem to be safe so we are on to peaches. Will keep you posted...

Pears

Lyla tasted pears for the first time last night. Seth and I had pureed them ourselves and were anxious to see what she thought. We mixed them with a little cereal and water so it wasn't too strong for her. She seemed to enjoy them; I couldn't give her another bite fast enough. She seemed to want more after the first serving so I prepared a little more. She scarfed it down too until I got to the bottom where it must have settled and was a little strong or something. You can tell by the pictures that she wasn't sure about those last few bites. Didn't stop her from wanting more, though.
