Thanks to my awesome friend, Sara, who offered to keep Rex (and Jake for Julie), I was able to go with Lyla's class on their first field trip of the year!
1st Stop: Garrard County Record (newspaper)
The papers used to be printed in this room, but now they are printed in Winchester, KY
Lyla borrowed the camera on the way to our 2nd Stop.
That's her "boyfriend," Tanner.
Oh, dear.
2nd Stop: The Post Office
3rd Stop: The Library
4th Stop: The Lancaster Grand Theater
Up in one of the Box Seats
Addison, Tanner and Lyla
Lunchtime on the Lancaster Fire Station Lawn
Julie & Keegan
5th Stop: Lancaster Fire Department
Lyla and Miley
They saw 3 fire and emergency trucks
On our way to our 6th Stop
6th Stop: Garrard County Justice Center
They learned about the justice system and visited a holding cell--hopefully for the last time in their lives
7th Stop was the Garrard County Clerk's office--no pictures, but we went inside the vault with records dating back to the 1800s
8th Stop: First Southern National Bank
They were quizzed on money trivia and saw the bank vault.
Lyla knew the answer to one of the quesions: "Other than 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100--what other bill is in circulation?" 2-dollar bill! The prizes were foreign currency pieces. Lyla got a Euro.
9th (and final) stop: The Old Garrard County Jail
It hasn't been used since 1986 and is said to be haunted.
I mapped our walk which ended up being just over a mile. It sure felt like more, but the weather was perfect and we had a fun day!
