Cellular Summer

Since I still haven't bought a camera (why is this decision taking me so long? it's not like it's life-or-death!), I have been using my phone (and Seth's phone) a lot these days. Here are a few pictures from our summer so far...

Okay, this was actually taken in March so it wasn't technically summer.
Isn't Lane a handsome boy?

Taken @ Mimi & DDaddy's. She's "working."
The glasses belonged to a Mrs. Beasley doll that must have been Andrea's.
Whereabouts of the doll--unknown.
Shopping with Daddy for new sunglasses.
Side story: We went to Lowe's on this day, too, and ran into a friend's mom who told Lyla "I like your bling" (pointing to her necklace). Lyla looked at her and very clearly stated "it's a neck (pause) lace."

Sporting his new sunglasses. He lost his last pair in the lake...last August.

The shades Lyla found on a recent grocery-shopping trip. No, we didn't but them.

Eating pb crackers by the (neighbor's) pool in her stylin' swimsuit.
Uncle Ken & AJ bought her a new suit toward then end of last summer. I knew it wouldn't fit long so I exchanged it for a suit the size she would wear this summer...and since the prices had gone down, she got a cute skirt, too! I wish (a) it came in my size and (b) that I would look as cute in it as she does!
Not possible.

Mobile Upload Amateur

So, I was trying to figure out how to clean the pictures off my phone and saw that I could upload them directly to blogger. "Cool," I thought. So, I tried this one. Then I couldn't find it. Then I found it as its own post. Oops. Now I know. Lesson learned.

This is Lyla with "her Suzanne" at lunch after church a couple of weeks ago. Lyla is wearing a handmade dress that was once worn by ME! I wish I could find a picture of myself wearing it...will have to keep looking. There HAS to be one somewhere! Suzanne took pictures of her in it...correction, I bummed Suzanne's camera and took pictures of Lyla in the dress. To be posted later...

Best Friends!

Our family is so blessed to have some of the best friends! In fact, these friends and how we became friends is the reason I know God has our family in the church where He wants us. We started attending CenterPointe Christian Church when I was about six months pregnant with Lyla. We met a few people in the beginning but it wasn't until Lyla almost three months old that our lives changed forever. In August, 2007, a massive flood did some terrible damage in the midwest including a city called Findlay, Ohio. Our pastor had some ties there and felt called to take a short-term mission team there to help with some clean-up. Once it was announced, Seth immediately turned to me and said "I think I am supposed to go on that trip." My parents and grandmother were coming to see Lyla that weekend so I wasn't too nervous about being left "alone" for the weekend and did not stand in his way...or, more importantly, in God's way. It was on this trip that Seth met the people you see below. He worked with them, got to know them, played basketball and badly sprained his ankle with them. :)
All they knew of me was that I made good cookies because I sent a couple batches with them for the trip. Seth became such great friends with these people. It was really cool for me, the extrovert, and the one who had always made friends and then tried to force Seth to be friends with them, too, to see what was happening. Let me stop here and clarify that Seth wasn't some nut that had no friends. We had just always had "his" and "hers" friends and I could see that we might actually have some "couple" friends. Not only that but HE was the one to make the friends first. People like to say that I can talk to a brick wall and Seth, especially, likes to point out that I have so much to say, I don't really need him there sometimes. I will not argue either of those points but I do prefer people to a brick wall. Let's be clear about that.
Over the past four years, we have become so close with these three couples. It's really an extraordinary thing. Erin & Dave recently moved to Nashville. As Dave has been finishing up at UK's Orthodontic School, we knew they would leave...one day...but not so soon. Here are some pictures taken over the past several months. I bet you can see how much we really do care for each other and how much fun we have together!

Erin made arrangements for us to have professional pictures taken together.
It was gray & cold and Lyla was fighting a cold.
We had a great time, though, and got some great pictures!

The girls: Rachel, Suzanne, Lyla, Me, Erin

The boys: Dave, Shane, Shawn, Dylan, Seth

Eating pizza before packing up all their stuff & moving it to Nashville
(What Erin calls "Seth's good side.")

All loaded up!

Empty and Clean.

We had their house in Nashville pretty well set up after about 6 hours!

Before going out for dinner and dancing!

We were line-dancing masters! (Bahaha!)

The Wild Horse Saloon.

We threw them a surprise party!

We kept it a secret really well but they got suspicious that day.

My friend, Vicki, made the yummy cake.
You can check her out on facebook by searching PattyCakes.

Dylan and I called each other about our shirts.

Yes, I realize it looks like Lyla belongs to me and Dave.
It's just how we stood with them.
Pretty funny, though.

We had all the guests sign the back of some cornhole boards as a gift for Dave & Erin.

They loved them but fear Tennessee fans won't want to play with them.
We got these awesome decals from Angie's Vinyl Co. and had paint made to match.

Their last Sunday at CenterPointe.
Dave is on the far left playing keys.

Erin has been so instrumental in teaching Lyla about prayer.
A couple weeks later, Lyla went to our church's prayer room to look for Erin.
It was so sweet and also sad.

Our worship band.

We are sure going to miss these two but have already planned a visit!
We love you, Dave & Erin!

Starting Her Resume

Thanks to Luke, Lyla has a lot of babysitting experience at such a young age. She helps me feed Luke his fruit/cereal and has even learned to wipe the excess with the spoon and put it back in the baby's mouth. I am told that when other kids cry at Sunday School, she comforts them. Sometimes when Luke is crying and I am fixing his bottle or something, she'll call from the den, "I've got this, Mom!" and she does. Whether she is dancing around to make Luke laugh or simply giving him his paci, she has it under control.
When we kept Levi all day, Lyla, of course, wanted to feed him his oatmeal. Not surprisingly, Levi preferred Lyla over me. Later in the afternoon, Lyla was building towers with her blocks. Levi was trying to help her by handing her blocks but he always managed to knock her towers down. After a few downed towers (and some frustrated "no, Levi"s), she finally gave in and started building towers for Levi...to knock down. She is such a sweet and smart girl. I love this video because you see how good she is with Levi and with all babies.

It's a Happy Song?

The next several posts will be videos. I still can't decide on what camera to buy (I have given myself one week so I can get used to the new camera before Lyla's upcoming birthday.) As I said before, my good ol' casio exilim still shoots video so that's what I've got to share! LOTS of videos!

Sorry for the shaky videography. I was dying laughing and trying to keep it together.

This was taken at Mimi & DDaddy's house. Lyla found that this blue stool was the perfect stage on which to perform. I love the songs she comes up with. My favorite one talks about bees and flowers, pollen and honey. I like it because it proves that television can be educational. I give PBS and "The Cat in the Hat Knows a lot About That" all the credit for Lyla's understanding of the connection between bees, flowers, pollen and honey.

Fun with Cousins

There's quite an age difference between Lyla and her cousins in Georgia. Jared is 18 and Jesse & Justin are 20. Lyla had fun using them as jungle gyms and they happily did just about whatever she asked. They don't get much time together so it was really fun for me to watch them play.

Up

Up

and away!

LOVE this shot!

Mimi gave Lyla one of her recorders

She was pretending it was a train whistle

Tossing to Jesse so he could make a  train whistle, too.

She loved having a fresh audience.

Justin's turn

Then Jesse's turn

Jared gave her his phone instead

She made a couple of calls. One to Ken T in the other room.

She wouldn't sit with them but wanted to stand

Silly faces!!
