Surgery Set

So much has happened since my last post on Tuesday. Wednesday, Rex's blood pressure took a drastic turn and an echo of his heart showed his heart was tired. He was moved to UK Children's Hospital NICU that night where they are better-equipped to care for him.
They started him on meds to reopen his PDA and give his aorta some relief. It hasn't reopened but has relaxed his aorta and helped him. He is also on a med that helps his heart pump stronger without tiring him so much.
The decision was made this morning that surgery is necessary. It has been scheduled for Tuesday at 7:15am.
We will know more about the procedure later but we believe they will go in and actually repair the aorta. It is not open heart but is open chest. We are glad to have a date set and have a peace about it That"s not to to say I won't be a basket case Monday night/Tuesday morning but we do believe it is best to go ahead and fix it now. He is in the PICU now and they put in a central line today so they don't have to keep sticking him so much. Last we called, he was still on the ventilator (from getting the line in) and they were waiting for him to wake up so they could remove it. He will probably be out of it most of the day. We are heading back shortly but I wanted to update before we did. We continue to be overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support and prayer. Seth and I have been blessed so much by all of you. We can feel the prayers and see them working in Rex, too. God continues to be in control and we thank Him for our precious little boy, Rex. Seth snapped this picture this morning while Rex was wide-eyed and looking around. Brighter days are ahead. We know it.
